Retail Manager

Clearly is seeking a dynamic individual to add to the success of our Retail team at our Kitsilano team as a Store Manager. 

What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • You manage with integrity in a way that promotes our culture, value and vision
  • You manage all areas of operations within the store to ensure the business is set up for sustainable financial growth, while fulfilling our service promise
  • You lead, mentor and manage all store staff
  • You set daily goals for the work group and coach to reach targets
  • You ensure that the store operates in compliance with the rules and regulations set by the BC College of Optics
  • You are responsible for the reporting, monitoring and analyzing of key performance indicators for the store
  • You are responsible for monitoring and analyzing the store's P&L on a consistent basis
  • You develop and manage the store's annual budget and expense compliance while continually identifying opportunities for improvement and areas of concern
  • You develop the roadmap of store need and make decision on store priorities
  • You perform regular industry, competitive analysis within the community in which the store resides, in order to identify opportunities to improve the store operation
  • You work with the team to set in place a loss prevention program for the store
  • You implement best practices to ensure the store operates in the most efficient and effective manner
  • You work with the Finance and Logistics teams to develop and maintain a schedule for inventory counts throughout the year at the store
  • You will work with community partners and stakeholders with the company, such as the senior Retail management team, and Marketing, to ensure the amplification of foot traffic and store/clinic awareness
  • You are full involved in the organization of in-store events to amplify the clinic, store and brand awareness
  • You manage existing customer relationships and outreach in your market for post purchase follow up and care
  • You ensure that product is merchandised to provide our customers with the most amazing Clearly experience and to maximize both AOV and conversion
  • You communicate any product or merchandise needs or opportunities to the appropriate stakeholders in our organization
  • You work directly with the Vision Care Team to improve customer experience, and relay information and feedback to increase efficiencies
  • You bring forward new ideas, initiatives, and improvements of existing functions
  • You solve problems with initiative, by asking questions, and creating winning results through a combination of proactive and analytic behavior. Be an entrepreneur!
  • You will ensure all payroll is accurately managed for the store
  • You develop talent for your store, and maintain store staffing  levels  by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training all team members
  • You handle customer escalations, assess and address customer complaints, and act as a liaison to resolve customer concerns       
  • You educate our customers on how to shop for glasses online
  • You are knowledgeable of our lens and frame products in order to educate and better assist our customers
  • You are fully involved in the organization of in-store events to amplify the clinic, store, and brand awareness
  • You communicate with the Operations Manager  on a regular basis to inform and update on the progress of your store operation
  • You showcase the retail operations to senior leadership and partners during in market visits

What You Need To Do Your Job: 


  • You have previous management experience in retail and/or optical industry
  • You have a post-secondary degree or certification related to management/business would be an asset  
  • You are comfortable and confident in making business-critical decisions
  • You have excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 
  • You are able to execute on timelines and expectations autonomously
  • You have the ability to effectively handle and manage confidential and sensitive information  
  • You have strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor team members in a fast-paced environment
  • You possess the ability to remain calm under pressure and lead a team during high energy situations
  • You are commitment to driving sales and lead the team to achieve individual and store targets 
  • You have the ability to analyze financial data in order to identify trends and problem areas that need to be addressed, in order to achieve and maintain high KPIs
  • You have great organization and planning skills,  and ability to manage multiple situations simultaneously  
  • You possess strong problem solving skills, ability to plan and prioritize  
  • You have genuine desire to make a difference in people’s lives 
  • You have a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays 

What You Can Handle:

  • You multitask and address multiple customers’ and team needs or concerns simultaneously
  • You handle escalated customers in a professional and objective manner, without taking their concerns personally
  • You can create and deliver financial and administrative reports for the Retail management team in an accurate and time efficient manner
  • You have the ability to effectively handle and manage confidential and sensitive information

  • You will have the opportunity to attend management courses and workshops provided by Clearly U or external providers
  • You will be mentored and guided by the  Operations Manager to help you develop a successful store operation
  • You will participate in brainstorming sessions that will lead to innovative ideas that may be implemented at the store level, or in relation to product development.
  • You will participate in annual retail strategy and business reviews.
  • Career progression could lead into an over-arching retail operations role or an internal position within a different department in Clearly.
